Tsunami flutes are available in 20 sizes. The five largest of these are the flutes in the keys of B, Bb, A, G# and G (the biggest). These large flutes are only made for custom orders and are usually not something I stock. If you are interrested in a large bass flute, call me to discuss these instruments. The mid-range flutes are the flutes in the keys of C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F# and G. C# is a bass flute with a very meditative tone. D#, F# and G are the flutes in which a vast majority of Native music is recorded, F# and G being the most traditional and most often requested keys. If you are a beginner and would like to "play along" with your favorite recordings to learn technique, these two flutes are the keys to use. The small, high, sweet voice flutes are the remaining instruments in the keys of G#, A, Bb, B, C, C# and the tiny D. Bb seems to be used as a popular recording instrument. I like it because it is very clear and plays with little distortion. Even when blown hard, it just gets louder. These little flutes are great for non-amplified acoustic gigs when the flute needs to be heard over other instruments. They also play well outside when background noise is loud or when the wind is blowing too hard to play a larger flute. By the nature of their construction, the large flutes play quietly and the small flutes play with plenty of spirit. Most small children can successfully manage the finger holes on the small flutes. Small adults with thin fingers may have more difficulty playing the larger mid-sized flutes and only full grown adults should attempt to tackle the very large bass flutes. All Tsunami Flutes play well regardless of whether you are a seasoned professional or a beginner. I stand behind all of the flutes I make and will be happy to guarantee your satisfaction. Occasionally, I have requests to make left-handed flutes and flutes for the handicapped. Call me or e-mail me to discuss any special needs you may have. There is no extra charge for designing a flute to fit your needs, unless you need a flute out of titanium because you are allergic to everything else. That will cost extra! |
